Winter Park

Winter Park is a quaint, chic suburban city of Orlando, Florida. With its estimated population of 29,203 residents, it is a city in Orange County with lots of culture and heritage. Originally founded in the 1880's as a resort destination, Winter Park is recognized as one of the first centrally planned communities in the state of Florida. Its pedestrian-friendly main street, Park Avenue, not only includes many public and civic buildings, but is comprised of a train station, prestigious art galleries, historical museums, an acclaimed liberal arts college, a gorgeous golf and country club along with unique boutique shopping and delectable dining experiences.

With nine historic sites on the National Register of Historic Places, Winter Park is celebrated for a sense of place and history. Featuring the Knowles Memorial Chapel, on the campus of Rollins College and is one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in the state, the crown jewel of all of the city's park, Central Park, centered in the heart of it all, the traditional Farmers Market, held on Saturdays at the restored train station and is a true landmark of Winter Park, along with the Hannibal Square and its Heritage Center.

Punctuated by small winding brick streets, moss draped southern live oak trees and lake shore mansions, Winter Park is known as a beacon of high culture. It is home to the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, which showcases the largest collection of Tiffany glass on earth and the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens, preserving the works of Czech sculptor Albin Polasek, as well as celebrating representational art and exhibiting regional and international artist's works. They also host an annual Bach Festival, a nationally ranked Sidewalk Art Festival and the Winter Park Concours d'Elegance, an event celebrating the art of automotive design.
Due to its close proximity of Orlando, located about 5 miles northeast of Downtown Orlando, many residents have easy access to downtown via the new rail system of the SunRail, which operates a rail line through Winter Park, in downtown's historic Central Park. Winter Park has an approximate median income for a family of $73,697 and an unemployment rate that is 1.3% lower than the state's ranking, at 5.0%.

Education is a very important factor in the life of the residents of Winter Park. Served by the Orange County Public School System, which was named a co-winner for the distinguished $1 million Broad Prize for Urban Education, the country's largest education prize, it boasts of the Winter Park High School with its 9 out-of 10 rating by GreatSchools. WPHS is a magnet school for the International Baccalaureate program. The community also has access to many alternative options for a their children's schooling. Rather you choose the Pre-K – 8th grade facility of St. Margaret Mary's Catholic School, The Geneva School and The International Community School with their Pre-K – 12th programs or the college preparatory school of Trinity Preparatory School, for those in 6th – 12th grades, they are sure to get a great education.

Having a graduation rate of 94% and 56% of those continuing their education, it is nice to know that Winter Park has choices for that, too. With the #1 2016 Best Regional Southern College ranking, Rollins College, is right in the neighborhood, it offers a multitude of 4 year degrees along with many graduate programs. Awarded for Best Recording School/Program in Mix magazine's TEC (Technical Excellence and Creativity), Full Sail University is also available to the graduating pupils. Valencia College, named "Best Community-College in the Nation," by the Aspen Institute, also houses one of their 5 campuses in Winter Park.

Nestled amongst the Winter Park Chain of Lakes, there is plenty of lush open spaces for not only boating, watersports, fishing, and swimming but also for a serene bike ride or jog. The area has access to many beautiful, relaxing parks and the 6.5 mile Cady Way Trail. This pedestrian-friendly walking, running and biking trail links many of the neighborhoods to the shopping and business districts of the community.
